With
the advent of computer technology and the pros and cons that have surfaced with
this technology, comes a responsibility of massive proportions for us to
understand how the technology works and how it can be used to both aid and
impede the efforts of law enforcement and the agencies in charge of public
safety.
Today,
with the massive amount of information that is now available for virtually
anyone with computer access to wander into, this same public, as well as
personal, safety has come under attack, leaving us feeling open and
vulnerable. Databases, full of our
personal information such as birth and death records, social security numbers,
our medical information, et al are all out there, just waiting for someone to
access. The information that can be
garnered from such databases can potentially used to control, influence or even
ruin our lives.
